About Us
Women in Philanthropy (WIP) is led by a fifteen member Board of Directors that meets monthly. Recommendations from seven (7) committees are presented to the Board for consideration in matters of membership, grants, finance, education, bylaws/operational guidelines, communications, and events. An education committee has been added to educate prospective grantees on the Women in Philanthropy guidelines and application process and to inform our membership regarding various activities.
Much has been accomplished during our inaugural year. Membership and operational guidelines were established as well as a grant application process with guidelines and evaluation tools. Our first and well-attended Member Forum was held January 2009 to update members on our progress as well as introduce WIP to other interested women in our community. The 2009 Annual Meeting in April brought excitement with the announcement and awarding of our inaugural grants. Members voted by mailed ballots for three grants totaling $60,000 to projects focused on the unmet needs of women and girls.
We are pleased to announce that membership has increased to over 100 and grant funding increased in 2010. Grants were awarded to four non-profit organizations in the CSRA totaling $74,900. While many worthwhile philanthropic organizations are experiencing a decline in membership and giving, members of Women In Philanthropy continue their commitment to the CSRA through leadership, charity, and advocacy.
"Now the CSRA has a women's philanthropy group committed to improving the lives of women and girls in our community. It has been heartwarming to see so many women get involved in committees that helped form Women in Philanthropy," says Carolyn Maund, one of the early founders.
